Our Team
We work hard to maintain an excellent team of doctors, receptionists, technicians, and patient care attendants. Our two veterinarians, four licensed veterinary technicians, and numerous support staff make a great team of caring professionals. We offer a wealth of knowledge and experience in the care of your pets. All of our staff cares deeply about our patients and most have special interests or areas of expertise within the practice.
Robbin Temple, DVM
Medical Director / Co-Owner
Dr. Temple joined the Bells Ferry Veterinary
Hospital staff on June 14th, 1999, and as of January 29th, 2007 she is
co-owner of the hospital. She graduated from the University of Georgia
College of Veterinary Medicine on May 10th, 1997 and is a proud member
of the Bulldog Nation - GO DAWGS! Dr. Temple treats dogs, cats, small
mammals, exotics, and wildlife. She loves surgery and client education -
especially for new puppies/kittens and older pets. Her outside
interests include hiking, reading, home improvement projects, and
spending time with her wonderful husband, two children and extended
family. Dr. Temple has three dogs; a Boston Terrier named Hadley, a
Boxer named Henry, and a Pug named Coleton. She also has two cats,
Fletcher and Owen, and two African Grey Parrots, Grey and Amos.
Melissa Miller, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Miller was raised in rural Illinois, and being surrounded by creatures big and small, she naturally wanted to pursue veterinary medicine. Dr. Miller graduated with honors from University of Illinois in 2000. She then spent three years in the Phoenix area before meeting her husband and moving to Georgia. She shares her home with her husband, two children and one fur kid - a dog named Alge (short for Algernon). When not at work, she enjoys hiking with her family at Kennesaw Mountain and around Red Top Mountain State Park.
Alice George, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. George grew up here in Atlanta and has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was little. She graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary School in 1984 (Go Dawgs!). She enjoys taking care of all the dogs and cats, but especially enjoys puppy and kitten visits, feline medicine, geriatric care, dermatology, and surgery. When not at the office, Dr. George enjoys cooking, gardening, and sewing. She loves to read, take walks in the mountains, and collect seashells at the beach. Dr. George also enjoys learning about old houses and historical locations. Her two children are grown, but the house is not empty – she lives with her husband, three rescue terriers, one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Annabelle the cat.
Trevor Lyon, RVT
Practice Manager / Co-Owner
Trevor came to work at BFVH in February of 2001. He is a member of the BFVH management team and as of January 2007 is co-owner of the hospital with Dr. Robbin Temple. He completed his education at Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Missouri in 1995. While living in Kansas, Trevor worked in the Internal Medicine Dept. of one of the largest specialty practices in the area and at Bayer Animal Health. After moving to Atlanta in 1999, he worked at a local general practice and at Radiocat caring for hyperthyroid cats. His main interests inside the hospital include radiology, wildlife (with an emphasis on Birds of Prey), and exotics. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, mountain biking, roller blading, fishing, and falconry. Trevor shares his home with a Bewier Terrier named Oliver and four Border Collies; Bounce, Flirt, Malcolm, and Verse.
Jasmine Lyon, RVT
Hospital Administrator
Jasmine joined our team in September of 1999. She is the hospital administrator of Bells Ferry Veterinary Hospital and in February of 2003 graduated from Purdue University's Management Program as a Certified Practice Manager. Jasmine has been a technician for the past 16 years, working at several local, private, and specialty practices. She received her veterinary technician license (RVT) in August of 2004. Her in-house interests include wildlife and canine behavior. Jasmine's outside interests include spending time with her husband and two daughters, gardening, traveling, showing dogs, and competing in agility with her Border Collies Bounce, Malcolm and Verse. In addition, she shares her home with a Bewier Terrier named Oliver. Jasmine is also active in Border Collie rescue.
Donna Mills
Administrative Assistant
Donna has been with us since 1985. She has been working in veterinary medicine since 1963 starting out as a receptionist. She "retired" in 2018, and we begged her to come back, so now she comes in every Monday to make sure we are still doing everything we are supposed to ;)
Karen Wolverton
Customer Service Supervisor
Karen joined us in the spring of 2011. She came to us from retail and we have enjoyed watching her grow with new knowledge and excitement for animal care. Karen was recently promoted to CS Supervisor and has excelled in her new role. You can find Karen enjoying the outdoors on her days off. She loves to hike, camp, and let's not forget cheering on the Braves and Atlanta United, and maybe a little shopping! Karen shares her home with a mixed breed dog named Monroe, a cat named Skully, and a bunny named Toasted Coconut.
Christine Turner, RVT
Technician Supervisor
Chrissy joined the BFVH family in June of 2001 as treatment and surgery technician. She was promoted to technician supervisor in 2006. She enjoys working with exotics, radiology, and blood chemistry - especially cytology and pathology. Chrissy received her veterinary technician license (RVT) in August of 2004. Outside of work, she enjoys drawing, going to the movies, and weather watching. She shares her home with her husband Richard and her two cats, Talon and Pickles.
Laurie Burkhalter
Veterinary Technician
Laurie joined our family in June of 2006. She is a fabulous addition to our team. Laurie has a huge heart, which she openly shares with the pets, clients, and all her co-workers. Laurie's interests inside the clinic includes client education, ultrasound, radiology, and getting to know some of the most amazing animals. Laurie shares her home with a troop of Shih Tzus. In her spare time, you may find Laurie shopping, enjoying photography, or shopping more!
Brien Drake
Veterinary Technician
Brien joined our family in November of 2018. He has two Yorkies named Chipper and Baxter. Brien loves working with and caring for the patients that come into the practice. When he is not at work, he is spending time with his wife and family. He enjoys watching college football and playing basketball.
Shannon Mulvey
Customer Service Representative
Shannon joined BFVH in August of 2015. She started with us as an animal care specialist and transferred to our customer service department so she could learn all aspects of working at a veterinary hospital. Shannon loves helping out all over the hospital, especially with any of the wildlife that comes in. She has two dogs (Blair and Deeks) and four cats (Ty, Penelope, Czar, and Forest). When she is not working, she loves going to the gym and hanging out with her friends. She is currently attending St. Petersburg College working towards her RVT degree.
Traci Homewood
Animal Care Specialist
We welcomed Traci to our BFVH team in April of 2009. Traci enjoys taking care of and spending time with our four legged friends that stay with us in our boarding facility. She is also interested in continuing her education on exotic animals such as ferrets, rats, snakes, hamsters, and rabbits. On Traci's days off, you may find her in her kitchen baking up goodies which she enjoys bringing in for her fellow staff to enjoy. She also enjoys movies and playing with her own four legged friends. Traci shares her home with her terrier mix named Suzie, a Dachshund named Bo, and two rescue pooches named LuLu and Sundance.
Tia Carter
Animal Care Specialist
We welcomed Tia to our BFVH team in April of 2019. She shares her home with a dog named Belle and two cats named Frisky and Blinky. She enjoys cuddling all of the animals and working in treatment with the hospitalized patients. While not at work, she enjoys watching scary movies, reading, and collecting crystals.
Jami Whiting, DVM
Chiropractor
Dr. Jami Whiting grew up in California and received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She completed her DVM at UC Davis, followed by an internship at the Littleton Equine Medical Center and the Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Australia. She then completed an internal medicine residency program at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2000, she was employed by the Dubai Equine Hospital as the Internal Medicine Specialist, providing internal medicine and critical care expertise to the region. Following training at the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine under Huisheng Xie, DVM., Ph.D., she began incorporating these traditions into her practice. She continued to expand her knowledge and experience in the healing arts by training at Options for Animals College of Animal Chiropractic. Dr. Whiting uses all her training and experience along with her deep respect and love for the animal to serve as an advocate for their care. Dr. Whiting is certified by the Chi Institute of TCVM, as well as the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association. She is a member of the AATCVM, the IVCA, the AAEP, and the AVMA.
